Pat Sandlin is an original homeowner living in River City
Commons since 1979.  She served with Jim Streng on the first
Board of Directors, giving her valuable insight into his vision for
our community.  After retiring from a 33 year career with the
Federal Court in 2004, Pat re-joined the Board and has put her
leadership skills to work to improve our property values and
bring about positive changes to River City Commons.

Outside of her time spent working for our Association, Pat has
coached the Boys and Girls golf teams at Natomas High School
for the past 6 years and during the summer months she
volunteers with the California Eagles 1st Tee Program, helping
people with disabilities develop their golf skills.

Pat also enjoys international traveling with Habitat for Humanity,
joining other volunteers to build homes for people in desperate
need of safe shelter.  Her trips so far have included Sri Lanka,
Costa Rica, Botswana, China and 2010 trip to India. She plans
to continue this work each year as long as possible!

Pat's home is often open to a host of family, friends and
neighbors that enjoy the casual atmosphere that living in a
"Streng" home provides.
Pat Sandlin
President
Harriet Kallemeyn's home in River City Commons is the first
house she has owned in her own right. Becoming an owner
instead of a renter was a big step for her, and she had some
definite ideas about what she wanted before she was willing to
take that step.

First, she believed in high density housing, living near her
workplace and using public transportation as much as possible
as a way to control air pollution, traffic congestion and urban
sprawl. It was a clear case of putting her money where her
mouth is. Secondly, Harriet saw the benefit of having access to a
pool and spa without having maintenance worries.

Harriet joined the Board of Directors because she wanted to
become involved in community service, and had the opportunity
to begin within her own neighborhood.

In the five years since she bought her home, there has been
rapid growth in the area: the planned extension of the light rail to
the airport, the boom and bust of the housing market, and
increased awareness of the flood risk. The South Natomas
Community Center is now a reality and what was once a field of
weeds is now a public park. Serving as a board member and
seeing the many day to day challenges of maintaining and
improving our common property in the midst of the pressures of
change in the larger community has given her a greater
appreciation of the benefits of planned unit developments.

"Neighborhoods like ours are an excellent example of how good
design and planning stand the test of time.  We have reason to
be proud of our Streng community, and the task for all of us,
including those of us on the Board of Directors, is to preserve it's
distinctive style while keeping it the livable, friendly and
enjoyable place to live that it is."

Michael OConnor
Vice-President
Michael OConnor has been a resident of River City Commons
for three years and intends to stay in our community for life.  He
is married to former Terri Danielson and resides on Chief
Court.  He and Terri own two properties in our neighborhood
and are active in the homeowner's association.  Both Michael
and Terri own businesses in Natomas and are concerned
about the continuing health and vitality of our neighborhood.

Michael is convinced that River City Commons is the model for
urban living and will serve as an example of how people can live
close to downtown, have access to public transit and participate
in all that our City has to offer.  Being a member of the Board of
Directors will give Michael the opportunity to help our community
continue to be a leading example of urban living at its best.

It is in everyone's best interest to have a workable and
progressive homeowner's association that upholds our
architectural standards, maintains the common areas for the
employment of everyone and encourages all residents to
maintain their homes in a manner that will enhance the value
and aesthetics of our community.  Michael is committed to this
concept and will work to ensure that the homeowner's
association is efficient, cost effective and viable.
David Heitz
Treasurer
David Heitz bought his third Sacramento Streng home in River
homes has been more than personal:  as a licensed realtor,
David identified, created and implemented strategy to focus on
mid-century modern Streng Bros. and Eichler homes as a
niche market.  He created an alliance between Streng Brothers
neighborhoods and Eichler Network’s (Bay Area) California
Modern magazine to reach interested homeowners and
potential buyers.

David has educated Streng Brothers homeowner associations
in Sacramento County on aesthetic, architectural, and
landscaping standards to drive market value and appreciation.

David has an understanding of mid-century modern design and
has first-hand experience in how architectural integrity can
affect property values.  His service on the community’s
Architectural Committee has focused to educate fellow
homeowners about the guidelines to maintain and enhance
home values.

"I was fortunate to have grown up in Chicago and my father,
bricklayer by trade, instilled in me a love for the stunning
architectural buildings designed by architects Louis Sullivan,
Frank Lloyd Wright, and Mies van der Rohe.  Upon moving to
Northern California and discovering Eichler and Streng Bros.
homes I was smitten.  Our South Natomas neighborhood,
RCCA, is a hidden gem and I feel very fortunate to not only live
here but have made lasting friends!”

Having owned/lived in Chicago, San Francisco & Budapest,
David loves the proximity of River City Commons to downtown
Sacramento, and the unique charm found within our
community.  He intends to stay in his home for the rest of his
life and hopes to one day ride the Light Rail from our
neighborhood to downtown Sacramento.  You will find David
walking Dudley Do-Right (his German shepherd) through the
streets of River City Commons or kayaking together on the
American River.  Both are friendly (!) and would welcome your
‘Hello’!
